So all of you who’ve been following me on my Instagram stories (and if you haven’t, find me on @BeautifulAdieu!), you’ll know that when I recently moved into my new place, I largely furnished it with furniture and décor from Taobao. I’m very flattered some of you have called me a “Taobao Queen”, and while I’ll try to live up to that name, I’ll admit I’m equally new to the shopping site and am still learning new things each time I log on.
Two weeks ago during their 11/11 sale, I came across some Christmas trees and decorations, and thought it would be perfect to share some really interesting finds I came across. I bought a really unconventional tree (see #1) as this will be the first ever Christmas tree I’ll own (I didn’t grow up in a Christian household). I wanted it to be really special and to suit the theme of our home, which is primarily pink and green. But if you’re looking for more traditional options, that’s really easy to search for on the site as well!
If you’re new to shopping on Taobao, I’m sorry I haven’t yet put up any tutorials or shipping help – but I’m sure these resources are easy to find online! I’m working on the guide, but meanwhile I thought that I should quickly share these links so they can make it back to Singapore in time for the festive season!
(Edit: My shipping agent told me that sea shipping on his end now takes about 10 days. If you’d like his contact, please send me a DM on Instagram or comment below with your email address. I will privately share his contact!)
So in the spirit of Black Friday, here’s more inspiration for your shopping!
Super pretty and feminine vibes with these – I got the pink tulle tree (against my traditional Christmas-celebrating friends’ wishes), the feather baubles and some pine cones, and I can’t wait for them to arrive. The tree is only 1m tall though, it’s tiny but proportionate to the space I’ll be putting the tree in. Be sure to check the dimensions before carting out!
Leaning a little more on the traditional side, this shop has some hidden gems amongst the many other Christmas decorations they offer too! I’ve always wanted one of those reindeer figurines… maybe next time?!
Gotta thank my friend, Nellie, who got this LED spiral tree for her new home too, for the recommendation! There’s other hipster stuff in there too, but the cookie cutter tree lights has got to be my fave in this shop!
What’s Christmas without fairy lights? Rather than the usual basic fairy lights, why not consider these? I bought the stars and unicorn ones for my own tree because I wanted it to be super extra. But hey, my tip? Try to get battery operated lights so that you won’t have so many unsightly wires around your tree, and you will also have that flexibility to put it in another corner that doesn’t have a socket! Plus once Christmas season is over, you can use these to decorate your room or favourite corner!
I love these minimalistic decors! I’ve actually done one of these hanging branches tree before for my friends at AndroidsinBoots’ Christmas Party about 4-5 years ago – we went to a forest and took back a big tree branch that was already cut off, then we sawed it to the various lengths and hung it up with hooks as support on the wall. Now you can save yourself all that trouble and just buy these ready-made ones, especially if you don’t have space at home even for the smalles of trees! Also, I’m loving the fur and hemp ornaments, they’re child-friendly too!
Super traditional stuff down in this shop – if you’re looking for basic baubles, this shop offers them in a variety of colours. And how cute are those mini tree cards?! You could turn it into a fun party activity and let your kids and/or guests write their greetings and in turn, help to decorate your tree!
For all you wood lovers out there! Although this shop doesn’t have much Christmas-related items, I think these are really statement pieces for your home, especially if they fit into your overall home décor. I love me a good statement tree!
This shop sells all things handmade, and it’s great especially if you’re looking to take on a more DIY approach this Christmas. From ribbons, pompoms to fake flowers, I’m sure you’ll find some cute knick-knack to bag home!
And that’s it for my very first curation of Taobao recommendations. Which was your favourite? I think mine has to be the unicorn fairylights! If you have something else you’ll like to see on the blog, or need help looking for any particular item(s) on Taobao/Tmall, we can always have a chat in the comments section, otherwise send me a DM on Instagram! x
